Extra content:
Yin & Flow Yoga
We begin class with a mindfulness practice and deep breathing, followed by a series of meditative yin postures held for several minutes in stillness to gently open the body and support the connective tissue. Each pose is a body meditation allowing you to fully arrive and feel the vital energy of prana, or Qi, that is the essence of healing and nourishment in hatha yoga. Then, we transition into a gentle flow sequence, using the breath to move mindfully from pose to pose, each one building upon the other to awaken and invigorate the body. Finally, we sink into stillness again with deep, relaxing savasana. This class is appropriate for all levels of practice, finding a gentle pace and meeting you where you are. |
Hanuman Chalisa
A Hindu devotional hymn (stotra) addressed to Lord Hanuman. |
A message from Sue:
Dear Community,
It’s hard to comprehend the speed with which our world is changing. The alchemy of joy and sorrow, generosity and grasping, fear and hope is creating new possibilities. Who could have imagined these circumstances would lead us to such a powerful place of healing.
The paradoxes are mind blowing. This virus tragically steals the breath from those at risk. While demonstrating we have the capacity to drastically change our behavior- to save our beloved planet. So our children and their children may have breath and a future.
This is what we have been practicing for!! The Yama’s and Niyamas are yoga’s moral code. I wrote about Ahimsa, the first yama, a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t have imagined how important this teaching would become. I’ll share the translation from the yoga sutras;
In the presence of one firmly established in non-violence, all hostilities cease
The root of violence is fear and the antidote is love. With all our strength we must cultivate love in our thoughts, words and actions. Shift our focus from the ME to the WE and this is not simply a human endeavor but for our entire planet. In mere weeks, areas where our violent human footprint has slowed down, we are seeing planetary healing. My daughter sent me a photo of bright blue skies and snowcapped mountains surrounding Los Angeles. A skyline formally hidden in a shroud of pollution for decades. This slowing down is also vital to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and seems to be this virus’s hidden gift.
More than ever, we at Dayaalu are passionate about sharing teachings to support your health and wellness. We have been moving at lightening speed to transition our service format during these tumultuous times. With dramatically changing schedules and economic situations for many, what feels important is to keep our practices accessible to all who need them. We’ll continue uploading videos of our beloved teachers and healers and will keep a selection of programs available for free. We have added a donate button to our Online classes page. If you can, please make a donation to keep Dayaalu and our teachers viable. In the future we hope to offer an unlimited online subscription, stay tuned.
We’ve transitioned our workshops, series and events online. They’re available for purchase by signing up on our website under our offerings- “Workshops, Series and Events”. Some programs will be live-streamed, you’ll need to register so we can send you a zoom meeting link. For our programs where the sound quality is key i.e. mantra or music programs, we pre-record and uploaded under our online classes tab. These you can enjoy them at your convenience.
Our first live-stream program is Sunday 3/22!! Join us for Be Nourished with Ayruveda to boost your immune system with Spring cleansing practices. This weekend we’re celebrating the Spring Equinox with 108 Sun Salutations and Mantras with Island Kirtan. Dayaalu is excited to launch our first Spiritual Community gathering where we’ll come together to connect to spirit and each through chanting and embodied silence. These last two programs are available at your convenience through our online class link.
We would appreciate you passing these amazing programs far and wide to your friends and family. We have received messages from people all over the world who are now practicing with us!!
Much love and peace to you all,
Sue
