Honoring Life's Passages
Whether it’s youth coming of age*, parents facing “empty nest,” the birth of a child, or the many “deaths and rebirths” we must navigate, our commitment is to support youth, adults, and elders in embracing these times as sacred challenges and to utilize our inner and outer resources to honor and strengthen our individual call, our place in community, and our collective humanity.
Nature’s rhythms, such as the seasonal shifts of winter and summer solstices and fall and spring equinoxes, are also paramount to mind, body, spirit well-being. Sometimes referred to as “rites of renewal” these ceremonies offer us an opportunity to reconnect to self and Source in simple yet authentic ways. We are excited to bring the energy of these cycles to the community in a conscious, ceremonial, and shared manner.

*Historically, rites of passage ceremonies and rituals have taken place in cultures all over the world, and yet modern culture has little to offer the important life passages we must face. Dayaalu is not set up to offer the kind of rites of passages programs that epitomize profound initiatory experiences, most notably, as youth transition into adulthood. Instead, our offerings are designed to utilize the potential of these threshold times to bring greater consciousness to our lives in a variety of sacred and intentional ways. We do, however, honor and recognize the historical and cultural precedence of these rites, and believe it is important to have a broader understanding of the purpose of rites and ceremonies for individual and collective evolution. See below for more information.
What are Rites of Passage? Rites of passage are an innate part of our human experience. Traditionally rooted in earth and enacted in nature, they facilitate a change in life status, and can encompass the whole life cycle, from birth to death. Marked by three distinct stages (separation, liminality, and incorporation), this ancient psycho-spiritual process is about dying to one's old ways of being, stepping into the challenge of the unknown and the in-between stages, and returning to take on a new life. We recommend Will Scott’s article, Rites of Passage and the Story of Our Times, along with the following books, articles, and in-depth ROP programs.
