Dear Dayaalu Community,
I’m on a road trip to LA to pick up my daughter from college. The journey’s gift is time to reflect and be in wonderment of all that’s happening. Nature sings in ways I haven’t heard before; the shifts on our beloved planet are palpable! Yesterday I saw the Olympics and Rainier radiant and crystal clear like never before. From the dolphins in Venice, sea lions on Bainbridge to blue skies in India, stories of transformation abound. Mind blowing — the speed with which these changes are occurring, defying my wildest dreams of the planet’s healing process.
As is often the case, I turn to the teachings of yoga to explore our current world experiences. I recalled how I’ve often defined yoga to new students, “yoga is a path that helps us connect to ourselves more deeply. This connection cultivates deeper relationships with others and ultimately connects us to the source of all things, whatever that might mean to you.“ Then I recalled the common translation of Yoga is union and I had an aha moment. The word connect requires separation, yet the word union comes from the root unio or oneness. This profound process of slowing down is not simply a transformation but a transmutation and a remembering of oneness.
All the things that have defined our culture; time, roles, identities, jobs, organized education are falling away. The possibilities are beyond imaginable, and hold both healing and the potential for great suffering. More than ever it’s clear to me that embodying oneness in our thoughts, words and actions is the way this time becomes a turn towards profound healing. In the midst of the beauty I’ve mentioned there is great and immediate suffering and need. So many people are without work and resources. It’s vital we lean in to this oneness and care for each other.
Our island is pioneering so many ways to meet these needs with innovative solutions. I’d like to share some of these amazing resources with you. Bainbridge Prepares is an incredible organization that’s been teaching and supporting our community to be prepared for times of need. They’ve created a WEBSITE specifically for COVID19 support where you are able to list;
They have folks behind the scene matching needs with supplies and services. Susan James is helping to lead the wellness team — an amazing team of providers ready to support you as needed.
They have also collaborated with the BARN to provide free grab and go meals for those in need, check that out HERE!
The outpouring of love and support in our Dayaalu Community has inspired me beyond words. I am in awe and so grateful for you all. Please know that we are here for you! The hardest thing for me to do is ask for help and I don’t think I’m alone; perhaps this is one of the many hidden gifts of these times. I know with all my heart it’s a gift to be able to give so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have a need or if you know someone in need. Please feel free to email info@dayaalucenter.com or give us a call 206 436-9388 if you or any one you know needs support.
Here are some ways Dayaalu is already here to support you. Last week we launched our Livestream Schedule: Where we offer a variety of classes from Gentle yoga, Hatha flow, Core yoga, Chair yoga, Mantra and Music, Breath Café, EFT tapping, Yin and Restorative yoga. To register for these classes click on the register button and follow the instructions to sign up for class through our MindBody system. If you have questions check out our Online Classes FAQ Page.
We also have a wide variety of Recently Recorded Classes, including yoga, tai chi, meditations and celebrations to nourish and heal your body, mind and soul.
ALL of our resources are currently being offered at a sliding scale to make them accessible to those with limited financial resources. Our classes are being used for the Bainbridge Prepares Wellness program and people all over the world are starting to access our services. Please pass the word and share our website: www.dayaalucenter.com to friends and families who may benefit. We are so grateful for your support as we endeavor in these new ways. If you are able you can make a donation for these offerings on our home page so our gifts can keep on giving.
We often end our classes with the beautiful Sanskrit greeting Namaste. The common translation for this is “the light in me bows to the light in you”. In the spirit of the oneness that is yoga I’d like to share this beautiful translation,
I bow to the light that connects us,
Much love and gratitude,
Sue
